2009 Spring/Summer trends
EYES
For Spring/summer '09-'10 designers opted for groomed brows, perfect
skin and feline eyes for an understated appearance. A muted colour
palette with warm bronze and gold were key for eyes and cheeks,
offering a sunny glow. Spring/summer 2009 had a less eccentric colour
palette. However, LFW didn't completely disappoint, providing
inspirational looks ranging from twig-shaped brows to 80s glitter eyes.
Gothic Trend / Smokey Eyes
Smoky black shadow is key for spring/summer 2009, creating a
punk-rock feel. Look extends from smoky panda eyes to liquid liner
taking centre stage.
Airbrushed / Glitter
Key shades are frosted violet, pink and palest blue, as well as
luminous coral, tangerine and lime green. Glittery highlighters were
used to emphasise the eyes, dabbing colour around the edges.
EYEBROWS
Eyebrows were a very prominent feature for this season. Brows take on a
number of different forms, but remain groomed, never untamed. Brows are
pencilled in using a darker colour to give definition and an outlandish
appearance. Straight brows take over from curved and arched shapes.
FACE
Pale complexions
In keeping with the gothic trend, ghostly pale complexions are widespread. Complexions are bleached white with heavy powdering.
Bronzed, sunny glow
In contrast to the pale complexions, bronzed sunny glows are also on
the radar. Cheeks are given a flush of colour in warm apricot and
peach, creating a natural sun-kissed look. The fresh-faced beauty look
returns for another season.
LIPS
Lip smacking colour
Burgundy, tomato red, bright coral, neon purple & bold lilac all
made an appearance on the catwalk. Scarlet, tomato and raspberry are
all key colours, but plum and frosted violet were also seen.
Toffee-toned tangerine makes for an interesting new statement, looking
wearable and fresh. Lips are matte rather than glossy.
Nude lips
In both matt & glossy finishes. Natural rosy mouths were
smothered in gloss for a lip-smacking look, while others opted for a
crackled, half-sheen/half-matt finish. Nude, matt lip colour in palest
pink subtly offsets golden skin tones, while chalky pales offer a more
ghostly, pallid feel, disappearing into the complexion.
